Runners race to help 10k’s official charity

SPAR City of Preston 10k had Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity as its official race charity.

A team of 30 runners took charity places in the race and are on course to raise at least almost £2,000 to fund charity team projects at the Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley and South Ribble Hospital and other sites managed by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Among team members were consultant Dr Gerry Skailes, the trust’s chief medical officer, its chief nursing officer Sarah Cullen and interim deputy divisional nursing and midwifery director Alison Mayor.

Others who signed up included Hannah Rigby, whose daughter Emilia Horton was born 10 weeks early and had to be looked after in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Royal Preston Hospital’s Sharoe Green Maternity Unit. Hannah ran to raise funds for Baby Beat, which part of the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity family.
