Lancashire Homebuilder Gifts £1,000 To The Greater Good Project

Barratt Homes has donated £1,000 to the Greater Good Project, a Lancashire charity created to support local organisations in need.

The Greater Good Project, located near Barratt Homes’ Brun Lea Heights development in Burnley, strives to enhance people’s lives by addressing various needs within the community.

Cath Eddisford, Director at The Greater Good Project, said: “Through a variety of workshops, projects and events, The Greater Good Project promotes positive health and well-being through creativity and the arts.

“With everything we do, we aim to create positive social interactions, improve confidence and self-esteem, promote goodwill, kindness and compassion, and nurture, inspire and empower struggling people in our community.”

The Greater Good Project will use the donation from Barratt Homes to tackle loneliness and isolation, which is contributing to poor mental health in elderly people living in local care homes across East Lancashire.

Cath continued: “We will hire two creative practitioners, a musician and a performer, to run creative workshops that include music, movement and poetry. We aim to reach as many homes and elderly people as possible.

“The workshops will feature upbeat sessions that will also have a positive effect on their day. The sessions will be very interactive, encouraging residents to sing along, and join in with seated dances and exercises, alongside feedback on what music and poems they would like to see performed.”

The Greater Good Project currently supports over 200 people in Rossendale and is passionate about improving people’s mental health and well-being.

Cath discusses how important the Project’s work is, saying: “Each project aims to meet a different need such as tackling loneliness and isolation, improving skills for those who are disadvantaged, offering inclusive sessions for disabled participants and improving the confidence in children and young people.

“Many people have told us that there should be more activities for older people in care homes who are lonely and isolated, and this project will meet that need.”

Grants, funding and donations are crucial for The Greater Good Project to continue. Anyone interested in supporting its work within the community can find out more information about upcoming activities on the website at The Greater Good Project.

Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We are happy to support The Greater Good Project and bring some joy to the people of this Lancashire community.
