Inner Wheel’s gift for Rosemere

Member clubs belonging to District 19 of the Inner Wheel, a female friendship and service group, have donated £2,900 to Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The presentation was made at a district meeting at The Crooklands Hotel, Milnthorpe, by elected district chair Jan Winnard, who is a member of Garstang and Over Wyre Inner Wheel Club.

Jan, who is also a volunteer in Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s coffee shop in Rosemere Cancer Centre, was able to nominate the charity for district support during her year as chair, which officially ends on 30th June although she is now to serve a second term.

In total, Jan oversees 15 clubs in her district stretching from the Scottish Borders through Cumbria and into Lancashire as far as Bacup. Jan said: “We have coffee mornings, bric-a-brac sales and meeting collections to raise funds. Over the last 12 months, our Padiham club also held a fashion show and two members of our Barrow-in-Furness club went to more challenging lengths in that one did a sponsored zipline across Niagara Falls and another, a cycle of more than 100 miles.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has supported our fundraising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which is a cause close to a lot of our members’ hearts.”

Yvonne Stott, the charity’s community and events fundraiser, said: “Thank you to Jan and all of her district clubs for getting behind us and gifting us such a fantastic donation.”

Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria being treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre, Lancashire and South Cumbria’s specialist regional cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, and at another eight local hospital cancer units across the two counties.

The charity funds cutting-edge equipment, clinical research, staff training and innovative services and initiatives that the NHS cannot afford in order to make patients’ cancer journey more effective, comfortable and stress-free.
