Update on new Leyland Costa Coffee opening in town centre at old Boots store in Hough Lane
The new branch was expected to open this summer...
Costa will open its new Leyland branch in the town centre next year.
The coffee chain had planned to open the doors this summer, but work has yet to commence at the former Boots store in Hough Lane.
But Costa said the store is still going ahead and its franchise partner, Sim Trava Group Limited, now intends to open the coffee shop next year.
A date has not been confirmed at this stage, but Costa said the new store will create up to 10 new jobs and will have space for around 90 indoor and outdoor seats.

Detailed drawings submitted as part of the planning application feature the company’s trademark red fascia signs, grey tiled walls and grey doors.
When the doors do finally open, Costa will face competition from a number of new cafes that have set up shop in Leyland town centre in recent weeks.
These include Spurrier, the town’s new licensed brunch spot, which opened across the road in May and has won praise for its ‘fancy’ breakfasts (view the menu here) - and the latest branch of local chain Neighbourhood Coffee House, which will open at the former Pantry café later this year.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “We’re excited to open our new Costa Coffee store in Leyland next year.
“The store will be owned and operated by one of our franchise partners and is expected to create up to 10 new jobs.
“In the meantime, the local community can enjoy their favourite handcrafted Costa coffee at our nearest store in Lancaster Way, Buckshaw.”
A new branch of Costa also opened at Sainsbury’s in Bamber Bridge last week. It opened its doors on Thursday, August 13, replacing the in-store Sainsbury’s café which closed last year. You can find more details in our report here.

What happened to Boots?
Boots closed in Hough Lane in February 2024, as part of the retailer's 'consolidation programme', which has been ongoing since June 2023. It said many of the affected 300 stores were not expected to meet their financial targets and were in a 2km (1.2 mile) radius of other Boots branches.
