A thriving Lancashire injection moulding company can now press ahead with a major expansion.

MGS Technical Plastics Ltd has been granted planning permission for its proposed warehouse extension, single storey rear and first floor office extension and alterations to car park layout at its site at Unit 7 on the Centurion Business Park in Davy Field Road.

Established in 1974, MGS Technical Plastics is a privately-owned plastic injection moulding company which opened its headquarters in Blackburn in 2013.

This hub includes both offices and a factory and is home to a team of experts consisting of highly-trained moulding technicians, toolmakers, quality engineers and multi-skilled operatives.

A Blackburn with Darwen Council planning officer’s report recommending approval of the extension with 10 conditions says: “The application site is an existing industrial unit accessed off a spur road leading to Davy Field Road, Blackburn.

“The current building is occupied by MGS Technical Plastics Ltd.

“It is set within a primary employment area and bounded to the south by the M65.

“The building is of modern construction, incorporating a mix of buff brick and vertically hung cladding beneath a barrel roof design.

“Planning permission is sought for a warehouse extension to the southern façade.

“The proposal also includes a single storey rear extension for storage purposes and first floor extension providing additional office space.

“The proposed extensions pose no threat to amenity.

“The proposed extensions have been designed to harmonise with the host building.

“The side warehouse addition incorporates a barrel roof form consistent with the main roof profile and at a lower ridge height ensuring it appears subordinate.

“The first-floor extension would be on pillars above an existing car park area infilling a vacant area to the existing building.

“It is modest in scale and fenestration detailing of windows are in keeping with the current arrangements.

“Materials to the extension to be profiled steel cladding to match the existing darker green elements of vertical cladding already on the building.

“On balance, the proposed development is acceptable on highways safety and parking grounds.”
