A fault affecting 431 properties in the city centre and Fishwick occurred at around 8pm last night, with Electricity North West engineers working for several hours to restore power.

This morning, as people turned up to work at the Unicentre in Lords Walk, it was discovered the fault has affected access, lifts, and lights on some of the stairwells.

It is believed that staff on some floors are unaffected, including those at HMRC, but many others are unable to gain access.

There are reports that people are being ushered inside the Guild Centre while the problem is resolved.
