Park project gets family backing

The memory of three loved ones have been immortalised in a range or memorial park benches after receiving funding through family donations to remember their loved ones

The Halewood, Wright, and McCann families donated £1,000 each for the benches, which includes the casting and fitting of the bench, and the memorial plaque.

Residing just north of Preston city centre in Moor Park, the benches form part of the £2.1m Moor Park Restoration Project aiming to revitalise the park through new paths, park furniture and heritage features.

Cabinet member for community and environment, coun Robert Boswell, said: “The council would like to thank the Halewood, Wright and McCann families for their donations and taking up the offer of benches within Moor Park.

“The peaceful and tranquil location is perfect as people have many happy memories of spending time with their family here, and the dedicated messages engraved on the plaques reflect those sentiments.

“Many of the seat locations have lovely views over the park, or are in areas of particular interest.”

The Halewood’s bench, in memory of Preston bookseller Horce Holland Halewood, can be found near the Garstang Road end of Moor Park, with the family wanting somewhere that would catch the sun when out.
