Ofsted shuts Grasshoppers Nursery in Fulwood for 6 weeks while investigation takes place

A nursery in Fulwood has been ordered to close after inspectors claimed children were “at risk of harm”.

Grasshoppers Nursery in Oliver’s Place, off Eastway, has been forced to close its doors for six weeks while an investigation takes place, said Ofsted.

Parents were asked to pick up their children early last week after it was notified that Ofsted had suspended the business’ registration to provide childcare services.

The Grasshoppers website and social media accounts have since been taken down while the contact number for the nursery automatically goes to voicemail.

‘Risk of harm’

The watchdog has not revealed the exact reason why action has been taken against the nursery, but did say it was to protect children from a possible “risk of harm”.

Ofsted said: “We are taking this step because we reasonably believe that the continued provision of childcare may expose children to a risk of harm.

“The purpose of the suspension is to allow time for further enquiries to be made and/or for steps to be taken to reduce or eliminate any risk of harm.

“Suspension does not automatically mean that a provider will be unsuitable to provide care in the future, or that we will cancel a registration.

“We only take steps to cancel a registration if we consider that a provider is no longer suitable to provide childcare.

“It is an offence to provide childcare that requires registration while a suspension is in place.”

The nursery, which opened in 2019, was rated ‘Good’ in all areas when last inspected by Ofsted in 2021.

Ofsted were approached for further details.
