Prestige Beds to open new Leyland store at former NatWest bank in Golden Hill Lane

“We couldn't be more excited to open our doors in Leyland for the very first time!,” said the family-run business.

Leyland’s former NatWest bank will soon reopen as a beds showroom.

The former bank has been purchased by Prestige Beds, a third-generation family-run independent bed specialist based in Blackburn.

Signs have appeared on the building’s windows announcing the new store will be ‘coming soon’, with the company also sharing the news on Facebook.

“BIG things are happening in Leyland!,” they said in a post this morning (Tuesday, October 20).

“We're making huge progress on our brand-new Prestige Beds store, and we couldn't be more excited to open our doors in Leyland for the very first time!

“There's still plenty happening behind the scenes, but we're getting closer every day, and we can't wait to welcome you in!”

The NatWest branch closed on May 15 as part of a swathe of closures put down to the increasing usage of online banking and apps. The closest Natwest branch is now in Fishergate, Preston.

The building was put up for sale in July, with an asking price of £225,000. In total, the premises offers 5,275 sq ft, arranged over three floors, including a 247 sq ft basement and has eight parking spaces.

History

According to Leyland Historical Society, the site was originally a Wesleyan Chapel, built in 1814 following the use of a room in Towngate.

As the movement continued to expand, all the seats were taken and the Sunday school attendances doubled. The building was then enlarged by the erection of a gallery with extensions being made to the front and the side.

The foundation stone for a replacement church in Turpin Green was laid by J.G McMinnies, the owner of Farington Mill, on September 18, 1875. The site was then taken by the County Bank, now being the National Westminster Bank.
