Popular Penwortham cocktail bar No. 16 for sale as owners face 'challenging trading climate’

A popular Penwortham cocktail bar has hit the market and is seeking new owners to keep the doors open.

No. 16 - On the Hill in Liverpool Road is being marketed by Sidney Phillips, who say the leasehold is available for £104,995.

Owners Antony and Stephanie Anderson opened the bar on the corner with Priory Lane in March 2020, with the aim of “bringing a unique cocktail experience to the Penwortham high street”.

They said the decision to sell the bar was prompted by a “desire for a change in direction, alongside prioritising health and family time”.

They acknowledged the “challenging trading climate” facing pubs, bars and restaurants in the UK, but said No. 16 had “continued to grow and thrive”.

The listing says the bar generated an annual turn over of £232,673 (£4,474 per week) for the year ending July 31, 2024. This refers to net sales, not profits.

Antony and Stephanie said they believe No. 16 will have “a strong future under new ownership” and the bar will continue to operate as normal until a sale is completed.

“We are incredibly proud of what No.16 has become”

A statement from owners Antony and Steph said: “After much consideration, we have made the decision to place No.16 on the Hill on the market.

“This choice comes from a desire for a change in direction, alongside prioritising our health and family time.

“We are incredibly proud of what No.16 has become. Despite a challenging trading climate, the business has continued to grow and thrive, which is a true testament to the loyalty of our customers and the hard work of our team.

“While No.16 is no longer the right long-term fit for us personally, we firmly believe it has a strong future ahead under new ownership.

“The bar will continue to operate as normal throughout the sales process, and we remain fully committed to maintaining the high standards our customers expect until a sale is completed.”
