We Are The Champions – Blackpool Care Home celebrates coming Top Of The League

Every month the home competes for points against its sister homes and hospitals up and down the country in a league called Barchester Goes Gaming. There are lots of different gaming events from general knowledge and music quizzes to bingo and number games to take part in. Everyone at Glenroyd care home was over the moon when it was announced earlier this month that out of 269 other Barchester care homes across the country, Glenroyd had been declared Gaming Champions for 2025 with £150 winnings!

Celebrations took place in style with a glittering awards ceremony organised by Agata and Karen in the Activities team, who always make sure everyone has their quiz sheets and their dabbers at the ready for their gaming sessions. Residents were awarded their medals and certificates for their hard work quizzing and a glass or two of fizz was raised to toast everyone’s team spirit and gaming prowess!

Pam, a resident at Glenroyd, said: “It was a real team effort. We worked hard throughout the year and not only enjoyed the friendly competition, but also had so much fun along the way. I am overjoyed to have taken the top spot and to be celebrating in this way.’’

Yvonne Hand, General Manager of Glenroyd, said: “We’re are all delighted to be celebrating our victory, everyone here loves some friendly competition and we all enjoy a quiz or a game of bingo so it is wonderful to hear that we have won the entire league out of 269 other homes!What an achievement! We’re planning how to spend our winnings doing the activities our residents love. There’s another quiz coming up next week so we’ll be competing again for the 2026 crown this time!”
