Several familiar faces front a new musical coming to Manchester Opera House next week.

Aaron Sidwell (Eastenders), Verity Rushworth (Emmerdale) and Matthew Wycliffe (Jersey Boys) lead the cast of Carnaby Street.

The production is set against the backdrop of London’s West End in the 60s – its iconic clubs, fashions and characters – and featuring classic hits from the time.

Sidwell takes on the role of Jack. His theatre credits include Loserville – The Musical (West End) and The Prodigals (Gilded Balloon,

Edinburgh).

Rushworth, who played Donna Sugden in long running TV farming soap opera Emmerdale and Penny in classic musical, Hairspray, in the West End, also appeared as Maria in the UK tour of The Sound of Music, including an acclaimed run at the Palace Theatre in September 2011.

Wycliffe’s credits include Bob Gaudio in the Jersey Boys and he also toured the world in the starring role of Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story.

This musical spectacular explores the Sixties as a time of hope and freedom.

And it features some enduring hit songs including Keep On Running, Twist and Shout, You Really Got Me, Mustang Sally, Sweets For My Sweet, Go Now, Shout and Born To Be Wild.

The show is produced by Carl Leighton-Pope, who has had an auspicious career in the music industry since 1972, signing and managing many big acts, and who has been developing Carnaby Street as a show for an

incredible 16 years.

And the performance is

directed by Bob Tomson, whose West End credits include Blood Brothers and Dreamcoats and Petticoats.
