She is “a persona to match the timeless qualities of her music,” said a spokesman for the musician.

Drawing on early 20th Century folk, country and blues, she “has a voice that can pierce a heart of stone”.

Well-crafted songs tell stories of troubled souls who rebel, tales of longing and love, of small town joys and pains, of simple feelings and strong passions.

These are tales that look into our beautifully flawed human hearts.

Suzie first recorded a cassette of seven songs for a few hundred dollars, made 50 copies and caught the attention of the music industry before Alt-Country even had a name.

Inspired, she quit her day job as a library clerk and, soon after, recorded her internationally acclaimed debut album Johnstown with assistance from Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo), Peter Moore (Cowboy Junkies) and Bob Egan (Wilco/Blue Rodeo).

Latest album Namedropper is a collection of songs written for her by fellow Canadian folk artists, and is vintage Oh Susanna.

Oh Susanna’s Leyland concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £13 adv/£15 door. Call 0161 761 2216 or go to www.mrkite.org or www.wegottickets.com/event/295183
