Flock, which focuses on depictions of common British birds, features the multiple artistic techniques of Simon Nixon, Bridget Longdon and Sarah Hicks.

The exhibition, which runs from August 31-September 27 in The Dukes Gallery, will offer a mixture of painting, sewing and collage.

The artists also aim to create an aviary-inspired environment, hanging their work from branches and playing audio recordings of birdsong.

Lancaster painter Simon Nixon explained how images of birds have featured in painting throughout art history, all the way from Ancient Egypt to the 21st Century, although usually in the background. He went on: “I believe the three different approaches used in Flock mean this exhibition will offer something for everyone.”

Bridget, a primary school teacher from Heysham, has created images of birds in embroidery and thread.

Her work has previously been displayed in various venues around Lancashire.

Sarah, a visual and community artist from Longridge, has produced collages of birds for the exhibition.

She creates unique and unusual work which has been displayed throughout Britain and beyond, including the House of Commons.

Flock can be viewed in the gallery during normal Dukes opening hours. If you are making a special trip to see it, please call the Box Office as sometimes the gallery is used for other activities.
