Folk hero plays Lancashire

Part of the 40th anniversary season of the Live Music at the Weekend series, Carthy plays in the Arena Auditorium of Parbold Village Hall on Saturday January 11, from 7.45pm.

Dubbed ‘the greatest English folk song performer and writer’ by Q magazine, Carthy is renowned as a balladeer and ground-breaking acoustic and electric guitarist.

His settings of traditional songs with guitar have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.

For more than 40 years he has been one of folk’s best-loved innovators, and has played on 40 albums to date.

A renowned solo performer, he has also blazed a musical trail in partnership with, among others, Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick, Norma Waterson and daughter Eliza Carthy.

He was awarded the MBE for services to English Music and won Singer of the Year and Best Traditional Track at the BBC Radio 2 Awards 2005.
