Champion Sounds for a Sunday session
Anglo-Dutch outfit King Champion Sounds are the brainchild of guitarist Ajay Saggar (once of Preston psychedelic favourites Dandelion Adventure) with vocals courtesy of G.W. Sok (The Ex).
The seven-piece line-up is completed by a stellar second guitar player, bass, drums, and two horn players.

Hide AdPundits have struggled and failed to pin down the King Champion Sound, with references to The Fall, swing-era horns, Beefheart, PiL, Can, Sun Ra, Morricone and the sounds of a Moroccan souk abounding.
In the summer of 2013, after hearing recordings for King Champion Sounds’ debut album, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs asked them to be the support act at their sold out Paradiso Amsterdam show.
Whatever the blether, King Champion Sounds are fantastic freaks, a band with real presence and authority, an astonishing sound – shuddering, rumbling bass , clattering guitar and a soothing, life affirming soul revue/Dexys feel from the horns – and the songs to match.
