Filming begins for sixth series of ITV crime drama The Bay in Morecambe

Filming has begun for the sixth series of hit ITV crime drama.

Earlier this month, plans were revealed for filming on the sixth series of the hit ITV programme The Bay in Morecambe.

Production is now under way, with crews arriving in town on Tuesday (May 19) and basing themselves in the Festival Market car park.

Work began immediately on Queen Street, where Grow Kitchen has been temporarily refitted with a brand new façade to appear as a pizzeria named Promenade Pizza.

Filming activity led to disruption on Wednesday, as Queen Street was shut to vehicles and pedestrians were diverted through nearby side streets.

ITV confirmed in November that they had commissioned a sixth series of the hit detective drama, following the success of its fifth series earlier that year.

At the time they said filming would begin in Morecambe on the new series in 2026. Reports at the time suggested spring was likely.

The Bay, which was co-created and written by Lancaster-based Daragh Carville, has been praised for its gritty storytelling, strong character development, and for portraying the toll that such intense work takes on the detectives’ own lives and families.

The picturesque yet moody setting of Morecambe Bay captures both the beauty and bleakness of the coastal town, reflecting the darker undercurrents of the cases themselves.
