Still a taste of the Caribbean in city

Organisers of Preston's Caribbean Carnival have urged city folk to support the event next weekend, even though its much-loved street procession will be missing.

A static “pop up” version will still take place on the city’s Flag Market on Saturday afternoon with many of the annual features, particularly the ever-popular Carnival King and Queen competition.

“The King and Queen Competition has always been a great event and this year offers a small-scale opportunity for us to celebrate all of the hard work that goes into costumes and dance routines without the expense of a full carnival,” said Elaine Webb chairman of the carnival committee,

Troupes Ablaze Youth Group, Isles in Harmony and Spectrum Association will be performing their dance routines and showing off their costumes. The family-friendly afternoon will also feature a kids’ funfair, food stalls, face painting and a treasure hunt.
