Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k in Preston: 26 joy-filled pictures as runners embrace the mud

Money raised at Race for Life enables scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

Around 2,500 runners headed to Preston’s Avenham and Miller Parks on Saturday to tackle this year’s Cancer Research UK Race for Life and Pretty Muddy events.

Participants could choose from the 10k, 5k and 3k Race for Life events, while those feeling a little more adventurous could take part in the adult and children’s Pretty Muddy challenges.

Mia Hitchen, representing Cancer Research UK on the day, said: “We’ve had around 2,500 participants today. We had three waves of Race for Life this morning, with a 10k event and the 5k and 3k setting off together as well.

“We’ve also had six waves of adult Pretty Muddy participants and three waves of kids’ Pretty Muddy events. There are lots of obstacles for them to go under and over. They get muddy, and we have volunteers chucking mud on them. It’s all so much fun.”

We were there to capture the fun and laughter as runners got Pretty Muddy for charity.
