On Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26, the Military Vehicle Trust for North Lancashire and Cumbria Area will take part in their Crank Up and Drive It Weekend.

The area members will meet up at Crooklands, Cumbria and enjoy a Lake District Run out on Saturday with around a dozen military vehicles.

On Sunday, they will then do some off-roading, to coincide with the Federation of British Historic Vehicles Club’s Drive It Day; the third year the MVT NLC area have linked up with the event.

Drive It Day is held each year and sees historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public celebrate the ‘One Thousand Mile Trial’, an 11-day round Britain public test that started in 1900 to ‘prove the viability’ of the new-fangled invention – the motor car.

Today, Drive-it Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and support amongst the public for the historic vehicle movement, as part of their ongoing campaign to keep transport heritage on UK roads, without restriction.

The event also raises funds for the NSPCC’s Childline service.
