Giant red canopies stretched across the Flag Market, as a hive of activity took place underneath, attracting thousands.Described as a weekend to discover, experience and become immersed in a spectacle of performance, music, street theatre and art - the event centred around Preston Pride on Saturday and Run Preston on the Sunday. From large scale interactive projections, street performers and singers to shopping centre salsa and magic shows, there was something for everyone.Preston’s historic alleyway, Surgeon’s Court, was also transformed as 4,000 red balloons were suspended in the sky for When The Red Rose In Preston.Another highlight saw the streets come to life as the festival’s Procession of Light weaved its way around the city on Saturday night. Like the festival itself, the procession showcased Lancashire’s diversity, creativity and innovation and brought together communities, organisations and businesses.Councillor Peter Kelly, cabinet member for culture and leisure services said: “Lancashire Encounter was a fantastic success – the city centre was filled with sights, sounds and opportunities for people to experience new things. It was so great to see Preston alive with activity and filled with so many people, seeming to have a good time.“It was also really positive to see so many different groups, organisations and teams work alongside each other to make it all happen. The Procession of Light, the highlight event, really demonstrated what can happen when we work together - Proud Preston we should be today.”Go online at lep.co.uk formore pictures and video from the event.
