As of writing this piece, it is less than 70 days before Christmas 2024, and already the seasonal events are starting to take shape across the United Kingdom, including the North West of England.
Be it the illuminations in Blackpool or the annual light show that takes place at Liverpool Cathedral, there is plenty to do this year around the region and to help you decide, we’ve selected 17 events set to take place from November 2024 for those stuck for ideas what to do with the family in the run up to Christmas.
Many of these events are free, but in the event you’ve decided that one of our selections is ticketed, we’ve tried to look at keeping costs down to below £20. That might seem a lot, but a number of those events that are ticketed do include all the “Christmas trimmings” making them value for money.
So before Santa Claus starts his courier job across the world this year, here’s a couple of opportunities where you can meet him in the North West, alongside some traditional festive concerts - some in the name of a good cause.
5. Enchanted at Knowsley Safari Park
This winter, Knowsley Safari Park will once again transform into a magical wonderland, where you can wander among illuminated animals, from camels to wolves, to exciting new additions like towering giraffes and playful lion cubs. For the third year running, explore our Winter Village, stroll through the sparkling light tunnel, and catch Santa’s elves hard at work. 6. The Light Before Christmas
The well loved festive light and sound show returns to Liverpool Cathedral from December 1 2024. This unforgettable experience will guide visitors through a visual representation of the Manger, as the nativity story is brought to life through a series of projections and specially composed music. | AFP via Getty Images
7. Christmas Concert at Palm House
Sing along to Christmas favourites like The Snowman and White Christmas, as well as some traditional songs like Silent Night and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. It’s not just Christmas songs though, they will be mixing it up with their versions of some great songs from various artists like The Proclaimers, The Beautiful South, Kate Bush, Eurythmics, Foo Fighters, Adele and lots more on December 19 2024. | AFP via Getty Images
8. Church Farm Santa Experience
Santa drops in to Church Farm for a few days in December on his way to the North Pole. He also brings his friends the elves, Jingle from The North Pole Postal Service, and his real reindeer. Come and visit the beautifully lit-up farm for songs, dancing and audience participation with the folk from the North Pole. Plus chocolate gifts for children from November 23 2024. | Church Farm
