Founder and organiser of Morecambe Music Festival Stuart Michaels said: "As you are aware 2020 has been a very challenging year for not only Morecambe, but the whole world with the tragic effects of the coronavirus.

"As a festival we have left any decision on whether to go ahead this year for as long as possible because quite frankly we really wanted to deliver another fantastic weekend for you all and it would have been a fine tonic after a frustrating summer of social distancing and lack of people able to visit your local for a drink and to take in the live music.

"We do have a Plan B and Plan C ready which was to postpone from July to August and then September if need be.

"However after thinking things over for a long period of time, with what is morally the correct thing to do and the safest for all involved, we deem it fit to take the course of action to unfortunately cancel Morecambe Music Festival 2020 and return on our usual weekend on Friday July 9 2021.

"We promise to be back bigger than ever and give you an amazing weekend to wipe away the memory of the lost summer of 2020.

"All we ask is when it is time for the pubs and restaurants to safely reopen, they will (as will the bands, performers and singers) need your support more than ever, so please go out there and support your local.

"Warm regards, stay safe and see you next year."
