"Being able to get out over the summer for outdoor shows was great. The audiences really were fantastic and you could tell people were ready for something."

Paul, a master of his trade for more than 25 years, will not be required to wear a face covering during his live performances of the new show featuring some of his favourite characters from Sam, to old man Albert and Baby at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Horseshoe this week.

Paul, who landed a Las Vegas residency after winning AGT in 2015, opens his five day run tomorrow. For tickets visit https://www.blackpoolpleasurebeach.com/whats-on/paul-zerdin/He said: “Blackpool is a place I know so well and love.

“I have had a many a fantastic season at the Pleasure Beach and the thought of being back there in The Horseshoe doing what I do, in this time of uncertainty, I’m really excited and looking forward to it and I hope the audiences will enjoy it too.“Life for us has to go on and that is in the safest and securest way possible and the team at the Pleasure Beach are doing a fantastic job.”

Paul will present new material as part of his fun-filled family ventriloquist show.

During ‘lockdown’ he launched a YouTube comedy sketch show series Sponge Weekly, featuring his puppet family and some hilarious ‘Street Vent’ camera pranks.

He added:“They said fit or fat during lockdown and that was it for me I started back running when they closed the gyms and have been doing 9 to 10k a day since March.

“Running around Wimbledon Common, which is my patch, I was coming back with loads of ideas, I’d write it down - some of it was complete nonsense but then I started sharing it with one of my writer friends, which was great.

“It formed the start of Sponge Weekly and just the opportunity to get out all my characters, do stupid things and be my own boss.

“I love the fact I had that complete control - I shot the pilot at home with some lights, a green screen and basic tech and I proved it was possible.

“It’s been an unbelievably crazy time but I wanted to make use of it creatively. It was good for the mind.”
