A dash for Christmas fun

Dashing through the snow without even a one-horse open sleigh – these Santas are bringing Christmas to St Catherine’s Hospice.

Their annual Santa Dash this year is a highlight of the hospice’s Christmas Festival which is today and tomorrow.

The beautiful grounds of the hospice, in Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall, will be
transformed into a winter wonderland for its second Christmas Festival. The first, last year, was a roaring success. Rachel Hewitt, head of trading, said: “We were overwhelmed with the amount of people who came to show their support for the festival last year.

“The grounds looked magical and everybody had a wonderful time.

“Now we are building on last year’s event – making this year’s festival bigger and better, with more attractions.

“We hope to welcome lots of visitors to the hospice to celebrate the start of the festive season, whilst raising much-needed funds.”

Big favourites return from last year, including the popular ice rink, and Santa will be in his grotto in the summerhouse.

Gift, craft and food stalls from local suppliers will be there, along with carol singers and a vintage fairground. And, for the first time, the annual St Catherine’s Santa Dash is part of the festival on Saturday, December 7.

The Santas run (or dawdle) a sponsored two mile dash around Lostock Hall – to be joined by a herd of reindeers for the Rudolph Rumble, a half mile fun run in antlers and red noses.

Senior fund-raiser Norman Cutler said: “We’re sure the Santa Dash and Rudolph Rumble will really add to the fun and festive atmosphere.”
