14:10 Thirsk

The First selection for today runs in the 14:10 at Thirsk, a six-furlong Maiden race for two-year-olds.

Designate will be the pick here, looking very unlucky not to break his maiden tag last time at Lingfield over a furlong shorter. He always looked tricky when cornering right handed there and drifting the width of the track inside the final stages before being beaten half a length. Hopefully this straight 6 furlongs will see a better performance this time an Designate will continue a fine strike rate at this track for trainer Ralph Beckett

Indian keys for Kevin Ryan could be a danger to the selection, not disgraced in a classy race at Newmarket last time., previous to that she has been knocking on the door at this level.

Westhoughton looks to have his work cut out at these weights and could struggle here.

Designate (WIN)

15:00 Sandown

For our second selection, we stay with the 2 year olds and head to Sandown for their 15:00. A Hot looking Maiden ran over 7 furlongs.

The one to beat here looks likely to be the Roger Charlton trained Time Test, slightly disappointing last time when turned over at odds on at Newbury, although he was only beaten a neck and this is much easier with a few of these longer term prospects- whilst Time Test looks to have a decent opportunity to gain his first win here.

My selection will be Carnival King for Brian Meehan. This Colt finished third on debut at Windsor, staying on into third. Brian Meehan’s horses usual improve for a run and Carnival King has a racing post trophy entry. He is taken to give Time Test something to think about here with the extra furlong in his favour.

Commemorative for Charles Hills looks to want a bit further and todays distance may not show him in the best light.

Carnival King (E/W)

18:40 Salisbury

For our final selection we look at Salisbury’s Evening meeting and the feature race on the card a listed race ran over a mile for 2 year olds.

A small but interesting field, all these boast a win each and the betting looks to be between the Richard Hannon trained Tupi and the Godolphin filly Winters Moon.

Both horses boast some smart form, Winters Moon only beaten 2 ¾ lengths in a Group 3 Contest over 7 furlongs. Well fancied that day backed in from an opening show of 5/2 to an SP of 15/8, better was expected and no surprise if she manages to get home in front today. Tupi also has Group form to take into this race, finishing just 2 ½ lengths behind the exciting Highland Reel. That form has to be respected although the extra distance may not be in his favour just yet.

My selection against these two is Elm Park. A fast finishing third on debut was backed up with a commanding win last time. I don’t think she has the scope of the other two, but in what looks like a race that will turn into a tactical affair a repeat of last times performance could be good enough to steal this.

Elm Park (WIN)
