Lancaster City look to finish season strongly

The Dolly Blues slipped to 18th in the table after picking up just a single point from their two games this week.

A 0-0 draw against Shaw Lane on Saturday – a match which was supposed to be away but was switched to Giant Axe at the 11th hour due to the inclement weather – was followed by a 1-0 defeat at Barwell on Tuesday.

City’s current position is their lowest for some time and Brown is eager that his men do not end the campaign with a whimper.

Starting with Stourbridge at home this weekend, City have three games left to play and Brown is hopeful that a strong finish will secure a respectable mid-table spot.

“When I see the league table, I don’t take any pride from being in 18th spot,” said Brown. “I don’t like looking at the table and seeing one of my teams in that position.

“But it’s still tightly packed and we know that there’s only two, three, four points separating six or seven teams.

“A couple of wins will take you up a few positions and two of our last three games are at home. We have just got to keep going. We don’t want the season to peter out.

After being below City in the table for much of this season, Stourbridge have picked up a few points of late to move above the Dolly Blues in recent week.

“They are a big club at our level,” said Brown.

“They have got big resources and some good players, who have picked up some points recently. We drew 0-0 at their place but could have won it in the last minute.”

Brown has an injury doubt over experienced defender Glenn Steel (pictured), who has a bruised foot.
