Jordan targets Gentry Day scoring repeat

The Lilywhites head to London on Saturday to meet a Cottagers side who are just a point and two places ahead of them in the pack underneath the play-offs.

It will be the 11th Gentry Day and last season Hugill was on target in a 2-1 win at Bolton on the day when fans wore their bowler hats.

That was the first time PNE had won on Gentry Day, Hugill heading the equaliser with Eoin Doyle netting a late winner.

Hugill told the Post: “It was brilliant at Bolton, I scored our first goal and it was fantastic to win the game.

“I’m looking forward to Fulham and I’m sure the fans will have a great day out in London.

“Hopefully we can get the three points to help the day go well.”

The visit to Craven Cottage has turned into a key clash with both sides eyeing a late run into the play-offs.

Fulham are seventh, five points behind Sheffield Wednesday with a game in hand.

North End closed the gap on the Londoners thanks to the 2-1 win over QPR, coupled with Fulham drawing 2-2 at Cardiff City.

Said Hugill: “We are in with a shout, we have narrowed the gap on the clubs above and are gaining ground.

“We have taken 10 points from the last 12 on offer and if we could beat Fulham, that would launch us right up there.

“I don’t think many teams would like to play us at the moment.”

Hugill heads to the capital as North End’s top scorer with 11 goals, 10 of those coming in the league.

His 11th goal was the winner against QPR, with Aiden McGeady also on target.

McGeady is a player who Hugill enjoys working with.

“You get absolute quality from Geads, we all saw that on Saturday with his goal,” said Hugill.

“He will pick the ball up with nothing looking on but somehow stick one into the top corner.

“We were on the back foot a bit before Geads scored but he has the confidence to get on the ball and try something a bit different.

“It is brilliant to have someone like him at the club, we have got a lot of creativity with him, Callum Robinson and Daryl Horgan. Hopefully we can keep producing.”
