Morecambe manager Jim Bentley is under no illusions as to the task facing his side when they meet Cheltenham Town tomorrow.

The Shrimps travel to Whaddon Road, looking for a win which would take them a long way to securing League Two status for another season.

Bentley’s players go into the game lying 20th in the table, eight points clear of second-bottom side Chesterfield.

The Spireites, however, have a game in hand on Morecambe and also visit the Globe Arena next Tuesday.

Tomorrow’s hosts may be six points and five places clear of the Shrimps but they go into the game on the back of consecutive defeats against Carlisle United and Exeter City.

“They are a little bit clear of us after having a good spell when they were in decent enough form,” Bentley said of Cheltenham.

“Their last couple of results haven’t been great but you know that you’re always going to get a tough encounter when you go to Cheltenham. They are a physical team with one of the best strikers in the league in Mohamed Eisa, who’s come from non-league football and got 20 goals this season.

“It’s a difficult place to go but we have only lost one in nine and are in decent form ourselves.”

The Shrimps head south, looking to complete the league double over their hosts after a 2-1 win at the Globe Arena on the opening day of the season.

Eisa opened the scoring for the Robins that day, only for Garry Thompson to mark his return with both Morecambe goals.

If Morecambe are to win then they may have to do it without keeper Barry Roche, who suffered a calf injury in the Good Friday draw at Swindon Town.
