Ryan Lowe said he isn't too bothered about PNE's run of 13 games without a clean sheet, but it doesn't half make the task of winning games harder. North End lacked potency in attack during last season, but they are now need to rediscover a solid base. Preston have let in 24 goals in their last 10 games and Freddie Woodman's confidence looks to have taken a knock. The number one did not command his box for Boro's second goal on Tuesday and the fourth did not look great either. The defensive unit needs to get back to basics and setting a platform to help Preston win games. placeholder image

PNE fell to a 4-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening

Preston North End were thrashed 4-0 by Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

Here are our five talking points from the Riverside.

Lowe reiterated the point of sticking by his players post-match, but also criticised the first half showing and said he would consider making several changes if a repeat of the performance is put in. The North End boss was coy on injuries, particularly over PNE's captain - while questions about defending and heavy defeats sparked spiky responses. Lowe has seen this version of his team on quite a few occasions now and every time it comes out, the manager's mood tends to be the same. Preston do have those dreadful games in their locker and Tuesday was up there with the worst of them. Had Middlesbrough won 6-0, there could've been no complaints. Friday's home match against QPR is certainly an important one. PNE need to bounce back and get everyone feeling that bit better.

5. Frustrated manager
