Penwortham skipper backing batsman Kriston to have really big Year
Captain Nathan Walmsley has backed professional Kriston Yearwood to play an important role for Penwortham this season.
The batsman from Montserrat has returned to Middleforth Green this summer after acting as the club’s overseas star in 2022.

That summer he performed well, scoring 744 runs at an average of just over 39 in 22 games in the Moore and Smalley Palace Shield Premier Division.
Now in a higher division, Penwortham were keen to bring Yearwood back to the club as they target promotion from the Northern Premier Cricket League Division Two.

Pen have begun the season well, they sit in fourth spot in the table after picking up three wins from their opening five league games.
This is despite the fact that Yearwood has yet to catch fire with the bat, averaging just 16 in the league so far.
However, the big-hitter, who has represented Montserrat, found some form on Saturday, scoring 46 as Pen got the better of Carnforth at Quarry Lodge.
"Kriston was our overseas amateur around four years ago,” said Walmsley, whose side host Fleetwood this weekend.
"He’s sort of pushed on over these last few years and no longer qualifies to be our overseas amateur.
"We were eager to bring him back as pro.

"I think he would admit himself he’s had a slow start but that is not something which concerns me or the club.
"He’s one of those players who is so dangerous that once he gets into a rhythm, he will be eye catching.
"He’s primarily a batsman but can bowl a bit.
"The great thing he’s down at the club most nights getting involved in the club’s various junior set-ups.
"He’s really involved at the club and really well liked and respected.
"He’s a great clubman and in terms of runs, hopefully he will start getting those big scores and really kick on.”
