Jack Catterall: Romero not my only option for world glory
Chorley’s champion boxer Jack Catterall remains open to facing other top fighters amid complications over his world title 'super'-fight with Rolando Romero.
The Lancastrian was crowned the WBA's 'regular' welterweight champion with last month's outstanding victory over Shakhram Giyasov in Egypt, earning the 32-year-old the right to fight for Cuban/American Romero's 'super' world title.

However, although WBA rules state Romero must face Catterall by late November, they don't prevent him fighting someone else first.
‘Rolly’ Romero, who hasn't fought for over a year, has been linked with a summer showdown against WBO champion Devin Haney or WBC counterpart Ryan Garcia.
These are admittedly more lucrative options than facing Catterall, who could in turn by impacted by the outcome of such a fight.
Catterall told Sky Sports: “News is circulating now that he's going to take a fight, an interim fight or a keep-busy fight in August, which is not ideal. There's potential [for him] to get cuts but either way I'm going to fight for that 'super' title.
"If not, I'm in a great division with a lot of big-name fighters, a lot of titles. Nobody's unified yet, so there's an opportunity to do that."
Catterall's unanimous points win over the previously unbeaten Giyasov was among the most impressive of his 33 career victories.
Asked who else he could face, Catterall added: "I like the winner of Lewis Crocker vs Liam Paro, Conor Benn, Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia …. I'd fight all of them whenever. I've got my piece of the puzzle now and hopefully that brings some weight to the table."
His promoter Eddie Hearn is pressing for the Romero fight to go ahead and told the Mr Versace podcast: “It’s going to be ordered but it’s just whether Rolly has a fight in between. The order is upon him to fight Jack Catterall and we’ll be pushing to make that happen.”
