Do look back in September

There will be a chance to discover hidden histories of the North-West on the Heritage Open Day Weekend in September.

From Roman remains to 1940s tea dances and ornate Turkish Baths, the North West reveals its historic secrets over the weekend of Thursday September 11 to Sunday 14.

Sites across Lancashire will offer guided tours, family-friendly themed events, fairs and festivals.

More than 550 free events will be taking place in the North West.

Local highlights include: l Costumed tours of Samlesbury Hall;

A chance to meet a ‘soldier’ from the First World War who will tell stories about his wartime experiences in the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum in Lancaster;

A rare opportunity to tour Preston’s Grade 2 listed Amounderness House, right, built in 1857 as a police station and magistrates’ court.
