Young Anjola Popoola has been godsend for Andy Preece’s injury-hit Chorley strike force
Chorley boss Andy Preece has praised young loan striker Anjola Popoola for his impact at a crucial juncture of the season.
The 18-year-old arrived at Victory Park at the beginning of December from Accrington Stanley with the Magpies down to the barebones in terms of their strike force.

With Kole Hall sidelined since the summer with a serious medical condition and Jack Sampson struggling with a calf injury, Preece has had to lean heavily on Tom Carr and 20-year-old Harry Ibbitson, who is on loan from Bradford City.
It was clear that the pair needed a hand, especially when another promising young loan star, Lucas Weaver, was recalled by Altrincham. Preece swooped for Popoola, who has featured seven times for Stanley, when he became available on a month’s loan which has been extended to a further month.

The Nigeria-born ace has certainly made his presence felt, starting four games since his arrival. He has notched one goal so far – in the 4-2 win at home over Hereford and has helped the Magpies turn a corner after a difficult spell.
After a run of eight league games without a win, Preece’s men have accumulated seven points from a possible 12 in their last four outings.
"Anj has settled in really well,” said Preece, whose men have no game this weekend. “Normally when you’re putting lads in, it may take a few games to get them up to speed.
"He probably needed a couple of games before he got his sharpness and also his understanding of us, but he’s improved in every game.
"He was a little bit like Lucas Weaver. We got Lucas absolutely flying then he gets called back, so I am pleased that we get to keep Anj for a further month.”
Preece also revealed he will be seeking further conversations with the Bantams about keeping Ibbitson, whose current loan deal is set to expire in the middle of this month.
"Harry’s scored some important goals for us and I’m pleased that he and Anj have come in and made an impact,” said Preece.
