“We know we can be a much better team than what we have shown”: Morecambe boss looks to back up weekend point
Ashvir Singh Johal says his Morecambe players need to build on the positives shown during last weekend’s draw with Scunthorpe United at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
After a torrid week which saw the Shrimps humbled by National League North side Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Trophy, Admiral Muskwe’s 96th-minute penalty earned them a deserved point against their high-flying opponents.

With Morecambe playing FC Halifax Town on Wednesday, Johal said: “We know we are not where we should be, but we are doing everything we can to make sure the next few months are a lot more positive than the first few months of the season.
“We’ve not been at our best in a lot of games this season and, quite rightly, the fans have been disappointed about the way we have played in some games and the results.
“I completely understand and respect the fans’ point of view and we know we can be a much better team than what we have shown.
“We showed on Saturday what a good side we can be and we have to build on that.
“We have to show fight and dedication and show a consistency of belief and effort and, if we do that, the score will take care of itself in most games.”
The Shrimps’ boss said he is expecting a busy few days as he continues to rebuild his squad.
Loanees Maldini Kacurri, Emmerson Sutton, Elijah Dixon-Bonner and Arjan Raikhy have all been recalled by their parent clubs.
However, Morecambe have brought in teenage defenders Timmy Akindileni and Ashton McWilliams from QPR and Aston Villa respectively.
Goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has agreed a deal until the end of the season with more additions set to follow.
Johal said: “We hoped to have another new face for last Saturday but we just missed the deadline, so that should be over the line this week.
“We are talking to a few more who are waiting for their parent clubs to get some incomings before they can be released.
“The players that we are bringing in we know will bring in competition. We have two clear profiles with young players like Ashton and Timmy, who are up and coming and hungry to compete, and experienced players who have played a lot of games at this level or leagues above.”
