“We are distraught and disgusted that it has to come to this”: Group urges Morecambe fans to boycott home matches until a change of management occurs

A Morecambe supporters’ group is urging fans to boycott all home matches until Shrimps boss Ashvir Singh Johal leaves his position.

The 1920 Union made the call on its X handle on Saturday, hours after the Shrimps’ 2-0 loss against Solihull Moors.

Morecambe's lack of a finishing touch again reared its head

It said: “The 1920 Union are regrettably announcing a call for fans to boycott all home matches until Panjab Warriors rectify their glaring error and relieve Ashvir Singh Johal of his managerial duties.

“We are distraught and disgusted that it has to come to this, but after fighting so hard to get our club back in recent years, we will not stand by idly as individuals with no knowledge of football operations keep the current management team in place.

“Repeated assurances that on the pitch performances would improve have not come to fruition, and it is quite frankly disrespectful to Morecambe supporters that the owners continue to allow this deterioration to happen without changing anything.

“If Ashvir continues in his role, there is no doubt in our minds that the club will be relegated to the National League North. This would cause catastrophic damage to all areas of the football club and community.

“Immediate action is needed to prevent this, and with the 10-day gap until our next fixture, this is the ideal time to make the required managerial change.

“Our boycott will end as soon as Ashvir is dismissed, and we will throw all our support behind this clearly capable team in the hopes of staying in the division.”

The 1920 Union initially came to prominence in November 2024, when it organised a protest against former owner Jason Whittingham’s running of the club prior to Morecambe’s home match against Port Vale.

It also placed banners across the area, as well as outside the EFL and Lancashire FA headquarters, in addition to displaying posters around Whittingham’s home town and organising a mailout.

There was also a protest against Whittingham during Morecambe’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea a year ago, followed by a proposed ‘not a penny more’ campaign at home matches until an ownership change took place.
