Town boss Ashy set to ring the changes for cup clash
Lee Ashcroft’s men welcome Vickerstown to the Mike Riding Ground tonight in the Richardson Cup.
It will be Town’s first game on their own pitch since beating derby rivals Garstang 4-1 on January 23.
Ashcroft is set to make full use of his squad for this evening’s cup game as he looks to keep his players fresh for this weekend’s huge West Lancashire League Premier Division clash against title hopefuls Charnock Richard.
“I might change things up for the Richardson Cup tie and try a couple of lads who have been on the fringes,” said Ashcroft.
“The team might change on Wednesday with a look ahead to the game on Saturday, with players pushing for a chance to start against Charnock.”
Town will be looking for their third win of the season over Vickerstown after completing the league double over the Cumbrians.
Meanwhile, Town will head to Charnock on Saturday feeling confident after a run of three successive away wins.
Indeed, Ashcroft’s men have only lost once on their travels all season in the league, although they are set for a severe test against Charnock, who find themselves 17 points behind leaders Fulwood but with seven games in hand.
They have lost only once all campaign and can boast two victories over Longridge this season in the league and the Lancashire Amateur Shield.
Town were handicapped in both of those games by having a man sent off and Ashcroft is looking for a more disciplined performance.
“Discipline has to be at a maximum,” he said. “We’re looking forward to the challenge of Charnock.
“We are gradually getting closer to them every year.”
