Brighton had won their previous two games 4-0 so clearly have a threat up front, so the clean sheet PNE got is not to be sniffed at.

Remember, Brighton are a club fighting for automatic promotion and will definitely make the play-offs.

As for North End, they are six points off sixth place with 11 games left.

The three sides directly above them won but Sheffield Wednesday are having a bit of a wobble, so who knows what is going to happen in the scrap for the last play-off slot.

PNE have steadily made progress as the season has gone on.

Not too long ago, they were 10 points off the play-offs and the same off the bottom three.

Now, they have a 17-point cushion between them and the relegation zone and are six off the play-offs. That makes for decent progress and let’s see what happens over the next few weeks.

I do think it is unlikely that North End will make the top six but it is do-able.

If they put a run together and others lose their nerve, things could get interesting!

They have two away games now, Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night and then Bolton on Saturday.

Forest are always tough at the City Ground but North End are capable of going there and getting something.

With what is going on at Bolton, the takeover and the financial uncertainty, it might be a good time to play them.

After Bolton beat North End in the play-off final in 2001, the clubs did not cross paths for a number of years.

For now, they are back in the same division but it looks like Bolton are sliding towards League One.

It is a while since Preston last played at Bolton so the fans will be looking forward to a local derby.

The visit to Forest makes me think back to when I was a PNE player and we had two players sent-off at the City Ground – Graham Alexander and Colin Murdock – in 2000.

At full-time, David Moyes went climbing up the stand to get to the referee’s assessor, a sight I still have a chuckle at.

If he did that these days, he would probably get a stadium ban from the FA.

At the time though, it was something he felt he needed to do to get his point across and in some ways, to protect the players.

Talking of Moyesy, there are rumours doing the rounds of Newcastle being interested in him should they choose for a change at the top.

Although they are deep in relegation trouble, it could well be a job which attracts him.

Despite their current plight, Newcastle is a one-club city and get big crowds which is a major attraction.

Managers will always back their ability to get a side out of trouble.

Moyesy could see this as a way back into the English game at a big club.

He isn’t going to get a top four club and if he is allowed to run things his way, Newcastle could be the job for him.

While Newcastle battle for survival, the title race at the other end of the Premier League is a fascinating one.

Everyone keeps saying that Leicester will fall away but they continue to defy the odds.

Like most neutrals, I would love to see them win it. They are a breath of fresh air and play an attacking style.

Leicester had a great win at Watford on Saturday night, playing after their title rivals had played earlier. Fingers crossed, they stay up there.
