Rangers '˜sniffing around' PNE striker

Speculation intensified ahead of PNE’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham that the Scottish club had renewed their interest in the 28-year-old after being linked with him earlier in the summer.

Garner played the full game against Fulham at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking after the match, Grayson said: “Rangers are sniffing around, they are wanting to try and take Joe Garner.

“We have had an enquiry but we are not looking to sell Joe.

“If anyone comes in with an offer we will contemplate it and do the right thing for this football club.

“But as a football club we don’t want to sell anyone.

“Every player has got a price I suppose – they do at every club in the world – and we have to do what is right as a club.

“We are not actively looking to sell Joe. Even though he has not scored today or much last season, he is an integral part of this club.

“There has been an enquiry from Rangers which we will talk about over the next 24-48 hours.”

Grayson said there had not been a bid as such from the Ibrox outfit, more a discussion on Garner’s value.

“They have talked a few figures here and there but that sort of information we will keep in-house,” said Grayson.

“If we sell any player, it will be for the best value we can get for him.

“No player will leave this club on a cheap deal because we don’t need to sell players.

“The only way a player leaves this club, and I’m not just talking about Joe Garner here, is if the player wants to leave himself as well.

“It is flattering hat a club like Rangers are looking at our players but we don’t need to sell.

“I have spoken to Joe about this over the last few days and I spoke to him this morning.

“He just wants to get on and play his football.

“What happens after that will happen.”
