Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth 'flattered' by Preston North End links

Gareth Ainsworth, the bookies favourite for the Preston North End manager's job, has spoken about being linked with the Deepdale vacancy.

The Wycombe Wanderers manager was a guest pundit on Sky Sport's Gillette Soccer Special on Tuesday night.

He was asked about the speculation and that fans of both North End and Wycombe would be interested in knowing his thoughts.

Ainsworth said: "Two fantastic football clubs, that is all I can say.

"I'm flattered as always to be linked with these jobs. I started my career at Preston which holds a big piece of my heart.

"As I have always said, it would take something super special for me to vacate Wycombe where we have built that culture and what we have done so far.

"So there will be no comment from me.

"Again, thank-up to all the fans who have shown concern. It's nice to be wanted."

Ainsworth had three spells as a player with North End, making 111 appearances on total and scoring 15 goals..

PNE have met his Wycombe side three times this season, the Chairboys winning 1-0 in the Championship earlier this month and 4-1 in the FA Cup in January.

At Deepdale in December, the sides shared a 2-2 draw.
