Hull were League One champions going into the game and it will be the same scenario this time around after the 31-year-old made a January move to Leam Richardson’s side before securing the silverware in May.

When Magennis last played PNE they were under different stewardship, then Frankie McAvoy’s first game in permanent charge, but the striker knows it will be a much different test this time around.

And with a sell out Preston support heading for the DW, the prospect of a local derby is enough to motivate those in the opposition camp.

Speaking to Wigan Today, Magennis said: "The gaffer there has got them flying, they're playing a different style of play to what they used to."They've established themselves as a solid Championship outfit, and they are opponents you have to respect."It's a local derby, and you don't need to get up for games like this, especially with it being the first game of the season."The important thing in games like that is to try to stay calm and let the quality shine through."It's a game we're all looking forward to."
