But when looking at certain ups, there is a bit of a Preston North End theme, with some who have plyed their trade at Deepdale tasting success this season, be it from promotions or still being involved in the play-offs.
There are nine players and one former manager currently at the top end of their respective divisions, from the top of the tree in the Championship right down to fifth in League Two, but who are they?
9. Joe Garner - Carlisle United
Joe Garner left PNE in 2016 as firmly confirming himself as a modern legend of the club. His goals helped North End out of League One and as a Preston fan too, fans could ask for little more. Since PNE, he's been at Rangers, Ipswich, Wigan, APOEL in Greece and Fleetwood Town, before joining Carlisle United. He was chosen in Sunday's play-off game ahead of top scorer Kristian Dennis. 10. Paul Simpson - Carlisle United
Paul Simpson was made North End manager in 2006, after having success with Carlisle. He had Preston top of the second tier during his first campaign but slipped to seventh by the end, despite having an England international in their ranks, missing out on the play-offs. After a poor start to the following season he was sacked. Since PNE, he's taken charge of Shrewbury and Stockport whilst having other coaching roles elsehwere. So far, he's taken Carlisle from 23rd in League Two to fifth and the play-offs. Photo: George Wood
