Tom Barkhuizen's red card stands but the Preston North End winger only gets a one-match suspension

Preston North End have had mixed news from the appeal against Tom Barkhuizen's sending-off against Stoke City at Deepdale.

An FA disciplinary panel upheld the red card shown to Barkhuizen by referee Matt Donohue for a challenge on Potters defender Morgan Fox, dismissing that element of the appeal.

However, a one-match suspension was given instead of the usual three games, with the panel accepting the winger was worthy of a lesser punishment.

Barkhuizen will miss Sunday's trip to Brentford but be available for the following game which is against Cardiff on October 18 after the international break.

North End had submitted video footage of the incident to the FA hearing which was held on Tuesday afternoon.

Their case was that Barkhuizen had slipped as he chased a loose ball in the 22nd minute of Saturday's game, the momentum from that slip taking him sliding into Fox.

They submitted that there had been no intent on his part to injure Fox.
