Club sack ex-Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle boss after 6-1 thrashing at Peterborough United
He was appointed by the Latics in March 2025
Wigan Athletic have parted ways with former Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe.

The Liverpudlian lasted 11 months in his post at the League One club. After Wigan’s 6-1 drubbing at Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon, the Latics announced they had relieved Lowe of his duties.
The decision comes one month after Lowe’s Wigan triumphed, one-nil, in the FA Cup third round at Deepdale. In the league, however, the 47-year-old’s first full campaign has been a struggle.
Defeat at Peterborough, after which Lowe did not conduct any post-match interviews, left Wigan 22nd in the table - level on points with third placed Rotherham United. In his 49 games in charge of Latics, Lowe won 14, drew 17 and lost 18.
In the league, it was one win in Wigan’s last 11 matches. This season also saw both derby games against Bolton Wanderers end in defeat. Still, the sacking comes just one week after sporting director Gregor Rioch publicly backed Lowe, amid mounting pressure.
Speaking on January 29, Rioch said: "Absolutely, 100%... he's got the full backing of everybody. From a league perspective we are underperforming, we're all aware of that. Everybody is aware that we should and could be further up the table.”
