Preston Sports Awards evening is postponed in response to virus

Friday’s GLL Preston Sports Awards has been postponed due to the Government’s recommendations amid the UK’s coronavirus outbreak.

Organisers from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) said the 2020 awards ceremony – which was due to be held at Preston North End this week – would no longer be going ahead.

Jimmy Khan, UCLan lead for sport and community development, said: “It is with deep regret that we have to announce the postponement of the GLL Preston Sports Awards 2020.

“Following the Government’s advice on social distancing, in addition to the cancellation of many mass participation events, we feel the health, safety and welfare of staff, guest speakers, service providers, etcetera, is paramount and therefore it is no longer feasible to host the event that we had planned to deliver this year.

“We have had some wonderful nominations this year and a fantastic event was planned, so we intend to recognise and reward the highly commended and winners at a rescheduled event later in the year.

“We would really like to thank our sponsors of the event for supporting us to reschedule the event later in the year.
