Preston North End's shirt sponsors down the years

Preston North End will announce a new shirt sponsor this summer after their deal with 32Red came to an end.

The Lilywhites were one of the first clubs in England to have a kit sponsor when Pontins was on the front of the classic Adidas shirt for the 1979/80 season.

In those early years of shirt sponsors, clubs had to revert to a plain shirt without the sponsors' name if their game was picked for live broadcast or shown on a highlights programme.

Here we have a look back at the various shirt sponsors North End have had, there just being a short spell at the start of the 1990/91 season when they didn't have a sponsor.

Shirt sponsorship appeared in English football in the 1979/80 season and PNE were one of only four clubs to do so. Holiday firm Pontins had its logo on the shirts.
PNE's second shirt sponsor was insurance form LEI in the 1984/85 season, as seen here against York City.
Lombard Continental was North End's shirt sponsor in the 1985/86 re-election season.
Local firm Garratts Insurance had their name on PNE's shirts for four years, starting with the 1986/87 promotion season.
For the first part of the 1990/91 season PNE didn't have a shirt sponsor, as seen here against Reading.
Ribble Valley Shelving, owned by Derek Shaw, started a shirt sponsorship contract with PNE in the autumn of 1990.
Coloroll became shirt sponsors in 1992 and first appeared on the 'zebra' kit.
Coloroll appeared in vertical lettering on the shirts in the 1994/95 season, David Beckham sporting that kit against Fulham's Terry Hurlock.
Baxi sponsored the kit for a number of seasons - starting in 1995 - during their stewardship of PNE. took over as North End's shirt sponsors for the 2002/03 season.
PNE had Enterprise as their shirt sponsor for five years.
Tennent's went across the Preston shirts for a couple of seasons, including the time they won 6-4 at Leeds with Jon Parkin scoring a hat-trick.
Magners Golden Draught cider was on the PNE shirts in the 2012/13 season.
The charity Carerstrust had their logo on PNE's shirts in the 2013/14 season.
Virgin Trains was a popular shirt sponsor and shared the day out at Wembley.
