Preston North End’s Scott Sinclair is getting ready for a hectic run of league matches

On the back on Sunday’s 4-2 win at Brentford, it would have been tempting to want a game straight away to try and build on those capital gains.

Sinclair, though, is mindful of a packed schedule ahead as English football makes up for the later start to the season.

North End have 19 games in the Championship to play between their return to action a week on Sunday and the start of January.

Bar the November break, it is a weekend/midweek schedule all the way through.

Sinclair, who scored PNE’s first two goals in the comeback at Brentford, said: “If we didn’t have the break it would have been nice to have another game and try to kick on.

“At the same time though, it is a good feeling to have the break and go into it being able to think of the three points we got at Brentford.

“We’ll get refreshed and prepare for the next set of games – there are plenty of them. They come think and fast from now on.

“Put a few good results together and you can find yourself in a good place.”

Sinclair’s double against Brentford added to the penalty he scored in the 2-2 draw at Norwich in North End’s other away game.

He has had the fourth joint highest number of shots on target in the Championship this season – six – so is starting to get in the right areas.

In Sunday’s win he started the ball rolling on the comeback, firing home Patrick Bauer’s knockdown.

Then 31-year-old Sinclair darted on to a cross from Andrew Hughes at the near post to tuck a shot under the goalkeeper.

Said Sinclair: “I’m always looking to score and to get two against Brentford was really pleasing. When that first one went in, you could see it had given us confidence.

“We knew we had to go and score another goal and we really took control of the game at that stage.

“When the ball comes into the box I’ve got to be alive to it and that is what happened at Brentford.

“We’ve had two good away results now at Brentford and Norwich, both teams who are fancied to go up.

“I’d say we were unlucky not to win at Norwich and we definitely deserved to beat Brentford even though we went 2-0 down.

“There were two mistakes for the Brentford goals and it was a case of making sure that didn’t happen again, while getting at them at the other end of the pitch.”

North End’s next visit to London – the clash with Queens Park Rangers on October 21 – has been given the slightly earlier kick-off time of 7pm.
