The goal against Luton gave them their only win of the season, drawing their other four games 0-0.

Woodman, who made an important one on one save against the Hornets, admits it’s disappointing that they couldn’t pick up more than a point but PNE are keeping their heads up.

He said: “As a team we are again disappointed that we've not picked up three points. We've been disappointed over the last couple of games with the same results but as a back unit we're delighted with the clean sheet.

"That's five on the bounce which is incredibly tough to do in this league. We're happy in one breath but disappointed in another.

"We're playing well, we're creating a lot of chances. Watford have just come down from the Premier League, they're a decent team, we've gone out there and taken the game to them.

"The only thing that’s missing is a goal. I think it'll come, I truly believe it will.

"We've put in some really good performances and sometimes in football the ball doesn't go in the back of the net. We're trying, everyone in the stadium knows that.

"It's important that we don't get complacent, we keep working, we keep building. No one in there is down or thinking why us, that mentality has never been the case here.”

Both North End collectively and Woodman individually broke records on Saturday. For the first time in the club’s history the Lilywhites have started their league season with five clean sheets whilst their no.1 is the first to record five clean sheets in his first five games, surpassing Martin Hodge in 1982.

Woodman was full of praise for substitute Greg Cunningham also, a respected professional in the North End squad who stepped up to the player when called upon on Saturday.

Woodman said: “I knew before the game that Martin Hodge had the record of four so it was important to me to try and get another clean sheet to beat his record. I'm really pleased with that little personal accolade.

"I enjoy playing with good players and I've certainly got that here. I thought Liam Lindsay was excellent again, Jordan Storey has been fantastic all season – I thought Greg Cunningham was when he came on.

"It's very difficult to come into the game when you haven't played much but I thought he was fantastic. When you're playing in front of that back three it makes life a little bit easier.

“It's a massive credit to Greg and I say that because the fans and the media don't see what he's like day in, day out. He's brilliant around the training ground.

"When I signed for Preston he was the first one to message me - never met the guy - but he was the first one to message me. That's the type of bloke he is.

"He's always ready and a top professional. Fair play to him, he's come in and done really well.”
