As always however, Preston North End fans were left scratching their heads – not just at the fact that Daniel Iversen’s stunning season went unnoticed – but because some in that side just didn’t do it against the Lilywhites.
Instead, here is an alernative team of the season, of those players that stood out particularly against PNE.
9. CAM - John Swift
A thorn in the side of PNE for many years, as are Reading, John Swift showed his class once again this season against PNE and the Championship in general. The Royals did the double over PNE, in no small part down to their main man. Swift netted in the 2-1 win at Reading and got a goal and assist at Deepdale in a 3-2 win. Thankfully, it seems that Swift and Reading have now parted ways, and with 11 goals and 13 assists this season the 26-year-old will be a wanted man. Photo: CameraSport - Mick Walker
10. ST - Lucas Joao
With Reading have the wood over PNE, it is no surprise that Lucas Joao finishes off the XI, especially with the Portuguese's performances. He set up one of the goals in his side's 2-1 win at home and socred twice, setting up another, in the 3-2 win at Deepdale. A powerful forward with an eye for goal, he certainly enjoys playing against North End and that showed in PR1 this season. Photo: CameraSport - Mick Walker
