Ryan Ledson returned to action after five weeks out with a torn calf muscle, the midfielder having been sorely missed in that time.

Anthony Gordon, Ben Whiteman, Daniel Johnson and Joe Rafferty also came into the starting XI, all having been on the bench in the 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough last Tuesday night.

Rafferty was needed at left-back with Andrew Hughes and Greg Cunningham both sidelined by injury.,

On the bench there was a seat for Billy Bodin, the winger not having featured in the squad since January's defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Johnson was given the captain's armband in place of the suspended Alan Browne.
